Theme 5. Sustainable Cities and Regions


  • 5A. Sustainable cities & climate-neutral districts
    The aim of developing sustainable and healthy cities in both developed and developing countries is to overcome conflicting goals in environmental, urban governance and spatial planning policies and to better integrate these policies towards sustainable urban planning. This track therefore welcomes, contributions and views on integrated development of (compact) cities and the built environment, which will improve not only health and the quality of life, but also a range of other environmental and social aspects. Special attention will be given to sustainable urban planning and the state of the art in climate-neutral districts. Contributions on policy aspects, community involvement, citizen initiatives and state of the art pilots are invited too.
  • 5B. Sustainable housing & construction
    This track invites state of the art contributions on sustainable housing and construction, both in developed countries and developing countries. This includes reducing natural resources, closing material flows and building systems and building-related processes that allow for recycling and re-use.
  • 5C. Sustainable regions
    This track invites state of the art contributions on sustainable regions in both developed and developing countries. This includes multiple land-use, making regions climate change proof, dealing with the sustainability problems of small islands and making regional tourism sustainable.
  • 5D. Sustainable mobility
    This track seeks contributions on the state of the art in sustainable mobility including development and introduction of electrical mobility, hydrogen-based mobility and biofuel applications.
