About ERSCP & EMSU

The European Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production is a non-profit forum that provides a platform to stimulate, develop and disseminate new initiatives aimed at fostering the implementation of concepts involving sustainable consumption and production and approaches within local and regional sustainable development initiatives.

Environmental Management for Sustainable Universities has evolved into a series of international conferences that explore the role of universities in creating new knowledge and attitudes to meet today’s environmental challenges. EMSU promotes a two way exchange of knowledge between universities and society.

Best Master Student Paper

BEST MASTER STUDENT PAPER AND BEST POSTER WINNERS

The ERSCP-EMSU organizing committee strived to stimulate young researchers. Therefore we have awarded two types of awards during the conference. The first is for the best contribution by a graduate or post-graduate student, the second are two awards for the best poster contribution. The awards consisted of a certificate and a collection of books, including the book "Prosperity without Growth" by keynote speaker Tim Jackson, the book 'longer lasting products' eidted by Tim Cooper and a book from Greenleaf.

The jury for best student paper was chaired by prof. Leo Jansen, and consisted further of prof. Casper Boks, prof. Arne Remmen and Renee Wever. They reviewed the papers and attended the presentations of those contributions that qualified for the award. The requirements were that the paper was based on work by students at the bachelor or master level, and that both the first author and the presenter had to be one of the students.

The winning paper was "Behind the Scenes; Media Industry Stakeholders Collaborating towards Sustainability" by Georgina Guillen, Jennifer Katan and Bin Xu from Blekinge Insitute of Technology, Karlskrona, Sweden. The jury was impressed by the approach taken in the research and the very dynamic presentation during the conference. The winning paper can be downloaded from http://www.erscp-emsu2010.org/file_download

The jury for best poster was chaired by prof. Tracy Bhamra, and consisted further of prof. Cees de Bont, Almut Reichel, Bas van Hoof and Renee Wever. They reviewed all posters and judged the research that was presented, how appealing and clear it was presented and how well the researcher verbally explained the work. As there were two poster sessions, there were also two best poster awards. The first was awarded to Hogne Larsen of NTNU (Trondheim, Norway) for the poster "Carbon Footprint of NTNU" and the second was awarded to Muralidhar Krishna Reddy and Ritu Sonalika from the Design Circle in Bangalore, India, for their poster "Design Thinking for Re-purposing Used Packaging Timber". Conference simultaneously in Cape Town, South Africa

North South connection and discussions

The conference will take place simultaneously in Delft in the Netherlands and in Cape Town, South Africa. There will be two way videoconference links between Delft and Cape Town.   It is expected that about 400 will attend at the Delft venue and 100 at the Cape Town venue.  Authors will be able to present at the venue of their choice, either Delft or Cape Town.  In this way travel is reduced and the conference is contributing a sustainable innovative practice by saving energy for travel.   This also facilitates meaningful discussion between North and South on environmental issues.
There will be number of parallel sessions at the conference, so a number of two way video links will be set up allowing for full interaction between the local and remote sites.   Delegates at the remote location will be given the opportunity to ask questions and contribute to discussions in just as delegates can at the local location. Please note that either Delft or Cape Town can be the local location depending on whether the speaker for a particular presentation is attending in Delft or in Cape Town.  There will also be some one way video links so that for those sessions where two way video links are not provided presentations can be video and audio streamed to the remote location.
